While in radiology school, I was already most interested in MR. In my first job, I had the chance to begin working in MR right away. It has been my “favorite” modality since the beginning. I love that it is never the same, and it is patient-dependent. I love that the exam quality depends on the short relationship and quality of communication that you have with your patient before the start of the imaging. I love the diversity of examinations. I love that there is always something new technically! And of course I love that the safety in MR is tricky (as I am in charge of quality and patient safety in my department)! I love my work because of the diversity of it, and because it mixes a technical side as much as a “patient” side, which is so great. I get to be there and help people in need!
A typical “day in the life” for me consists of waking up last minute, driving 25 minutes through one of the most beautiful places (Lavaux, Switzerland) to get to work in a regional hospital. Then my working days are never the same, working hours change every day, and as I am polyvalent, I work sometimes in CT, PET CT, x-ray or MRI; and sometimes in the ER and sometimes in the elective department. And one day a week I have my 20% job as in charge of quality and patient safety. So, my work days are pretty diverse, and I love it! After work, I drive back home, again enjoying the view; and 3-4 times a week, I go for a run in the beautiful vineyard region where I have the chance to live. I have been living with my partner for 18 years, and I enjoy running as well as skiing in winter. I relax watching some TV series, and I like to spend time with friends.
Something that most people don’t know about me is that I had two humanitarian jobs in 2012: in Afghanistan with the ICRC and in Nepal with the Swiss Nicole Niquille Foundation as an x-ray tech. The job was to improve the quality of the x-ray imaging. They were wonderful experiences.
I have been a member of ISMRT since 2008. I joined because I am very interested in MR and because of the networking, and I love the international aspect of our society, as well as the webinars and courses available, and continuous news. It is a great society for MR personnel!
